Detailed Course Content

  • Module A

    Modeling and seismic analysis of r.c. framed structures and r.c. shear walls. Rules for the correct setting of the structural plan layout. Simplified prediction of structural response and preliminary sizing. Identification and detailed design of dissipative structural elements. Definition and detailed design of not-dissipative structural elemets (capacity design).

    Structural codes

    Design of steel structures
    Design of steel structural members.
    The purpose of this course is to provide basic principles and structural detailing of multi-storey and single storey buildings. Brief information about structural analysis, load, design codes and structural stability is also given. The course gives some example of simple structures.
    Design of steel connections.
    Bolted connections. Welded connections. Classification of connections basing on stiffness and strength. Examples of common types of connections.

    Design of steel structural in seismic areas
    The purpose of this modulus is to provide principles and structural detailing of multi-storey buildings in seismic areas.
    It will be focused on particular seismic resistant structures: Moment Resisting Frame MRF and concentric CBF and eccentric EBF frames.

    Design of structures in seismic areas protected by isolation o dissipations systems
    The purpose of this modulus is to provide principles and structural detailing about innovative seismic protection system with particular attentions on base isolation and dissipative systems.
