Structure of raster data, raster 2D and 3D primitives, compressed formats of raster files (JPEG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, MrSID, ECW). Georeferencing of raster images, world file. Vector cartography: entities and geometric primitives.Sspatial relationships between geographic entities. Structuring topological vector data. The geographic information in GRID format, digital terrain models (DTM-DSM). TIN model for representations and 3D analysis of the territory, Delaunay algorithm.

2. Remote sensing. Background. the physical principles of remote sensing. The electromagnetic spectrum; remote sensing in the visible, infrared and microwave. Types and resolution of acquired images. natural radiation issue: laws of Planck, Wien, Stefan-Boltzmann. Outline of absorption and diffusion of radiation. passive and active remote sensing sensors. Main applications of radar sensors and nods to interferometric techniques. satellite orbits. aerospace missions for earth observation. Problems and methods of processing and interpretation of remote sensing data. Techniques for the classification of remote sensing images and production of thematic maps.

3. Geographic Information Systems. Architecture and functionality of a GIS platform. GIS functionality: editing and management of spatial reference data selection, query, overlay, buffering. Advanced spatial analysis. Display and output. Development environments. Data Base (DB) and Data Base Management System (DBMS); Layout and properties of a DB, data models, conceptual , logical and physical data modeling. The Entity-Relationship model: general constructs, restructuring and normalization of the E-R diagram.
