L’attività scientifica del Prof.Ing.Gianluca Cicala ha avuto inizio con una tesi di laurea sperimentale svolta in collaborazione con la multinazionale I.C.I. (Imperial Chemical Industries) durante uno stage della durata di sei mesi presso il centro Wilton International (Wilton, UK). Lo studio ha riguardato lo sviluppo di un’innovativa tecnologia di tenacizzazione per resine epossidiche lavorate mediante R.T.M. (Resin Transfer Moulding). La tecnica sviluppata è stata  basata sull’utilizzo di fibre termoplastiche solubili. La tecnologia realizzata è, attualmente, commercializzata dalla ditta Cytec Engineered Materials sotto il nome di PRIFORM™ ed è utilizzata, prevalentemente, in ambito aeronautico.

L’attività scientifica è poi proseguita sia nell’ambito di alcuni tirocini presso il centro Wilton International, in collaborazione con la Cytec Engineered Materials, sia presso il DMFCI (Dipartimento di Metodologie Fisiche e Chimiche per l’Ingegneria) dell’Università degli Studi di Catania. L’attività di ricerca è proseguita poi presso il DII (Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale) ed attualmente è svolta presso il DICAR (Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile ed Architettura) dell’Università degli Studi di Catania.

L’attività scientifica del Prof.Ing. Gianluca Cicala è focalizzata sulle seguenti tematiche:

  1. Preparazione e caratterizzazione di miscele termoindurente/termoplastico.
  2. Nanocompositi funzionali.
  3. Materiali compositi: tecniche di produzione e caratterizzazione.
  4. Ecocompositi: formulazione e tecniche di preparazione.
  5. Materiali per la manifattura additiva.
  6. Materiali auxetici.
  7. Analisi LCA di materiali polimerici e compositi.

 

          L’attività di ricerca si è concretizzata in:

 

·        89 prodotti indicizzati (SCOPUS e/o ISI Web of Science);

·        5 pubblicazioni su rivista nazionale;

·        2 brevetti internazionali;

·        1 brevetto nazionale;

·        6 capitoli di libri;

·        80 comunicazioni pubblicate su atti di conferenze nazionali ed internazionali.

 

            I lavori del Prof.Cicala hanno ricevuto un totale di 1273 citazioni e il suo h-factor è pari a 23 (database SCOPUS consultato il 05/08/2019).

"Confindustria Ceramica e Federchimica Ceramicolor, assieme alle Università di Bologna e Modena – Reggio Emilia, sono i promotori del Master di 2° livello ‘Impresa e Tecnologia Ceramica’, rivolto ai laureati magistrali in ingegneria e discipline scientifiche, economiche e giuridiche. Il master è stato presentato il 30 maggio a Sassuolo da Giovanni Savorani, Presidente di Confindustria Ceramica, Daniele Bandiera, Vice Presidente di Federchimica Ceramicolor, Tiziano Manfredini, Direttore del Master e professore all’Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia, e Maria Chiara Bignozzi, condirettore LEGGI TUTTO

Gli argomenti delle tesi di laurea saranno discusse di volta in volta in base alle tematiche disponibili. Le tesi saranno preferenzialmente di tipo sperimentale e saranno realizzate presso i laboratori del DICAR.
