Learning Objectives

The course has the aim to give knowledge and skills on risk management and plant safety, through theoretical knowledge and practice about methodologies for risk analysis, technical and organizational aspects of plant and work safety and maintenance management.

Course Structure

Theoretical lessons and exercises will be the base for developing teamworks about safety on the job or safety of industrial plants.

Introduction to safety.

Basic course on combinatorial calculation, probability and statistics.

Theory of reliability: reliability functions and Mean Time To Failure. Assessment of reliability functions for the most common reliability systems.

Application of the Markov theory to the systems reliability.

Safety related systems.

Risk analysis methodologies for complex systems: qualitative (HAZOP, FMEA) and quantitative (FTA) techniques. Checklists.

Legislative aspects on job safety and health at work. Specific risks and operational aspects.

Introduction to maintenance concepts and availability. Maintenance policies and strategies.

Legislative aspects of plants subjected to major accidents.

Exercises on Reliability of systems and Fault Tree Analysis.
