CONTAMINANTS TRANSPORT, RISK ASSESSMENT AND SITE REMEDIATION
Module ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION AND REMEDIATION OF CONTAMINATED SITES

Academic Year 2026/2027 - Teacher: FEDERICO VAGLIASINDI

Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding

The course aims to provide knowledge of pollutant dynamics, relevant environmental regulations, and available site remediation and containment technologies, also through the preparation and presentation of case studies on real remediation projects and technical site visits.

Applying Knowledge and Understanding

By the end of the course, students will have acquired a general understanding of the administrative and technical regulatory framework, the main mechanisms governing pollutant transport and dispersion in saturated and unsaturated soils, and conventional and innovative technologies for the containment and remediation of contaminated sites.

Making Judgements

Students will be able to navigate the relevant regulatory framework by identifying the administrative and technical procedures applicable to contaminated sites, describe the main mechanisms governing pollutant transport and dispersion in saturated and unsaturated soils, and critically compare different containment and remediation technologies by evaluating their effectiveness, application limits, advantages, and disadvantages, and identifying the most appropriate solutions for specific contamination scenarios.

Communication Skills

By the end of the course, students will be able to use the technical and regulatory terminology relevant to the field, describe the main processes governing pollutant dynamics, and critically discuss different site containment and remediation technologies, demonstrating their knowledge and assessing their applicability in different professional contexts.

Learning Skills

Students will develop the ability to independently update their knowledge through the consultation of technical and scientific literature, regulations, and sector-specific guidelines.

Course Structure
