MOBILITA' SOSTENIBILE

Academic Year 2025/2026 - Teacher: MICHELA LE PIRA

Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge of the concepts related to sustainable mobility with reference to the different components of sustainability. Skills related to sustainable mobility planning and feasibility studies of interventions in the transport sector (with particular regard to energy-environmental aspects).

The course will cover SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and, in particular, target 11.2: By 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons, as well as SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and, in particular, target 9.1:  Develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including regional and transborder infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all, and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

Course Structure

The course includes:

- frontal lessons

- guided exercise(s)

- guided tours

The acquisition of skills will be verified by means of an oral test which will cover both the theoretical topics and the assigned exercises.

Required Prerequisites

Tools to support transport planning and analysis of transport systems: analysis of transport demand and supply; level of service; mechanics of locomotion.

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance is strongly recommended as it is consistent with the proposed teaching model which aims to encourage gradual learning, the active participation of the student in the classroom, and dialogue between teachers and students.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The acquisition of skills will be verified by means of an oral exam which will cover both the theoretical arguments and the assigned exercises.

At least 7-10 days before the date of the final exam, the student must send a draft of the report about the practical excercise on the class topics via mail. Once revised, the student should bring a copy of the final version of such a report the day appointed for the finals.

During the finals, the student should answer, generally, three-four oral questions about the topics of the course (please refer to the Most frequent questions below).

The evaluation will be based on the:

- quality of the report on practical applications (50%);

- completeness and clarity of the answers to the oral questions (50%).

Active participation to class work will be also accounted for.

Examples of frequently asked questions and / or exercises

- Principles of air transport

- The sustainable mobility paradigm

- Rigid and elastic transport demand

- Difference between cost / price / tariff in the transport sector

- Cost-benefit analysis and multi-criteria analysis

- PAES

- VIA-VAS
