Fixed-term Assistant Professor (RTDA) of Materials science and technology [IMAT-01/A]

Date of last update: 01/02/2025

Claudio Tosto obtained his BSc in Mechanical Engineering in 2014 from the University of Catania (grade of 110/110 cum laude), presenting a thesis on the fatigue behavior of high-strength steel components (thesis title: Determination of Wohler curves for mechanical components (high strength steel bolts) by Thermographic Method, supervisor: Prof. A. Risitano). He then pursued an MSc in Mechanical Engineering in 2017  (grade of 110/110 cum laude), completing an experimental thesis on engineering polymers for additive manufacturing (thesis title:Mechanical behavior of FDM materials: effect of process conditions, supervisor: Prof. G. Cicala). In 2022, he earned an International and Europaeus Ph.D. in Materials Science and Technology (XXXIV cycle, Systems, Energy, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering), with a dissertation titled “Advanced Materials for Additive Manufacturing”. His doctoral research, conducted in collaboration with an industrial partner in Italy's racing sector, included an international exchange program at the University of Limerick (Ireland).

In 2022, he was appointed as a Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to the project “Development of Innovative Additive Technologies for Composites”, under the PRIN "Multiple Advanced Materials Manufactured by Additive Technologies" (20179SWLKA). This work also involved an international research collaboration at the Institute for Polymer Materials and Plastics Technology (PuK) at Clausthal University of Technology (Germany).

Between 2021 and 2022, he worked as a Research Fellow on the PON PNR 2015–2020 research project Thalassa: Technology and Materials for Safe, Low-Consumption, and Low Life Cycle Cost Vessels and Crafts (CUP B46C18000720005). His project, carried out at the University of Catania, focused on “Composite Materials Based on Natural Fibers and Bioepoxy Matrices”
