Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide students with the appropriate theoretical knowledge and practical-applicative competence of drawing methods as a basic language for the representation and communication of the project and construction of civil engineering works.

Course Structure

The teaching methodology of the course includes frontal lessons in the classroom, exercises on paper and computer and intermediate delivery of graphic works.

Detailed Course Content

1. THE SCIENCE OF REPRESENTATION

Biunivocity between reality and representation. The projections. Central and parallel projections.

2. ORTHOGONAL PROJECTIONS

Monge's method. Projections of the point, the line, the plane: its traces and projections. The auxiliary planes. Conditions of belonging. Incident lines and straight lines. Overturning of the geometric plane. The representation of objects. The section.

3. AXONOMETRIC PROJECTIONS

The three-dimensional representation: orthogonal axonometry, oblique axonometry. The axonometric sections.

4. Dimensional projections

Representation of the fundamental entities: plane, line, point. Overturning for the determination of the terrain profile. Representation with contour lines.

5. THE SURFACES

Primitive surfaces (cone, cylinder, sphere); definitions. Projections. Sections. Intersections. Assonometry

6. The representation of the existent and the project

UNI standards (Sheet format. Sections. Quotatures). The scales of representation. The error of graphics at the different scales.

7. THE COVERING ELEMENTS

The geometry of sloping pitched roofs.

8. THE VERTICAL CONNECTING ELEMENTS: THE STAIRS

Various types of stairs. Representation in orthogonal projection. The offset.

9. Digital representation
Drawing and modeling programs, usage modes and basic concepts; raster and vector representation, graphic primitives, 2D and 3D space, coordinate systems.

CAD 2D Graphical interface; command input mode; drawing display mode (zoom, pan, aerial view); precision drawing (object snap); two-dimensional graphic primitives; selection set management; editing of graphic primitives. Object properties (color, tipoline, thickness); use and management of layers; use and management of libraries and blocks; use and management of hatching; dimensioning. Output devices for printing; use of layouts.

3D modeling. Custom coordinate systems; wireframe modeling (elevation and extrusion concept); surface modeling (3d primitives, mesh, grooved surfaces, extrusion surfaces, revolution surfaces, coon surfaces); solid modeling (3d solid primitives, custom solids, boolean operations, modification of solid objects).

Parametric modeling and BIM approach to the project.
