ENVIRONMENTAL AND SANITARY ENGINEERING
Academic Year 2026/2027 - Teacher: FEDERICO VAGLIASINDIExpected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding
The course aims to provide basic knowledge on pollution of solid, liquid and gaseous matrices and engineering solutions. The issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) addressed along the course are: the sustainable management of natural water and wastewater and technologies for water treatment and reuse (SDGs 6 and 14); air and soil pollution and its mitigation and remediation (SDGs 3 and 15); waste management aiming at prevention, recycling and recovery (SDGs 11 and 12).
Applying Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the course, students will have acquired an overview of the main pollution phenomena affecting environmental media, including air, water, and soil, and of the possible engineering interventions available for their remediation.
Making Judgements
Students will be able to describe the main pollution phenomena, identify the most appropriate treatment technologies, and critically compare their effectiveness, application limits, advantages, and disadvantages.
Communication Skills
By the end of the course, students will be able to use the technical terminology of environmental sanitary engineering and communicate clearly and effectively about environmental issues and solutions related to water management, waste management, and environmental quality to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Learning Skills
Students will develop the ability to independently update their knowledge through the consultation of technical and scientific literature, regulations, and sector-specific guidelines.
