Meccanica dei Solidi e delle Strutture

Academic Year 2026/2027 - Teacher: FRANCESCO CANNIZZARO

Expected Learning Outcomes

The course aims to provide fundamental knowledge on the statics and kinematics of rigid and deformable bodies, and to analyze the structural response and stability of structures composed of beam solids. The acquired knowledge will provide the basis of the technical skills necessary for the design and evaluation of civil structures and industrial components.

Course Structure

The course will take place primarily through face-to-face teaching. Remote sessions will be held for the exercise tutorials

Required Prerequisites

Analysis II is required as a prerequisite for the module

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance will be recorded during lectures. To access the mid-term tests, it is essential to have achieved at least 70% attendance

Detailed Course Content

Geometry of masses – Kinematics of rigid bodies – Statics of beams – Analysis of stress and strain in solids – The principle of virtual work – Calculation of displacements in beam systems – Linear elastic law – Saint-Venant's beam problem: Normal stress, symmetrical and unsymmetrical bending, Shear, Torsion – Introduction to non-linear constitutive equations and strength criteria for brittle and ductile materials.
