SYSTEMS ECO-FRIENDLY DESIGN FOR INNOVATIVE PROCESSES
Academic Year 2026/2027 - Teacher: GIOVANNA FARGIONEExpected Learning Outcomes
The goal of the course is:
To design and analyze pipelines for the transport of fluids (hazardous and non-hazardous), studying their components and using some theoretical-experimental methods to perform their analysis and synthesis. The course is also aimed at helping the student gain a good understanding of the Italian regulatory framework, the European Directive 97/23 PED on pressure equipment, and the harmonized standard EN 13445 (calculations using traditional logic and FEM calculation codes with result comparison, solid models). Another key objective is the study of API and ASME standards for the purpose of controlling and designing industrial plants.
At the end of the training course, the student will be able to assess the safety and use of certain basic mechanical components, and how to integrate them into a chemical and petrochemical plant in accordance with construction standards, taking into account operating conditions, and making some evaluations of the environmental sustainability of the solutions chosen.
Course Structure
The theoretical-demonstration lessons will alternate with classes dedicated to project setup, which students will have to complete in order to pass the final exam. The course will be conducted through in-person lessons.
If the teaching is delivered in a hybrid or distance format, necessary changes may be introduced compared to what is stated, in order to follow the planned program as outlined in the syllabus.
The teaching materials consist of the lecture slides and additional documentation (studium.unict.it).
