## Learning Objectives

**Design of steel structural elements and connections**This course aims at giving the theoretical knowledge and the practical capability for the structural design, in its stages of modeling, structural analysis and structural check. This last one is in particular referred to check and design of steel structural elements. Each student will apply this knowledge to the basic structural elements of a steel structure.

**Design of reinforced concrete structural elements**The aim of the course is to provide the student with the theoretical knowledge and application skills needed for the design of steel and concrete structures. First, a geometric model will be defined to represent the structure. Second, the internal forces will be determined. Finally, the cross-section of the members will be verified. Each student will apply this knowledge to the basic structural elements of a reinforced concrete building.

**Design of steel structural elements and connections**Serviceability and ultimate limit states.

The material steel and the models for its behaviour. Ultimate limit state check of steel cross-sections and members subjected to axial force, bending moment, shear and torque. Connections for steel members. Serviceability limit state check..

**Design of reinforced concrete structural elements**Resistance of concrete and steel: compression strength, tensile strength, elastic modulus. Acceptance of materials. Shrink and fluage. Axial force. Bending moment. Eccentric axial force. Shear force. Punching. Torsion. Serviceabiity limit states.
