Learning Objectives

1) Evaluation of the stiffness matrix of simple structures;

2) Design and verification of reinforced concrete and steel sections using limit state resistance domains;

3) Design and verification of prestressed reinforced concrete beams.


Course Structure

Classes of the topics of the course;

Numerical applications on the main topics (Axial force combined with bending moment, Shear force, torsion, design based on ductility, instability of r.c columns);

Development of the design of a r.c. framed structure;

Example of pre-stressed beams.


Detailed Course Content

The course aims to transfer to students the knowledge necessary for the design and verification, according to current regulations, of reinforced concrete and steel beams as components of complex structures. Design and verification for simple and compound stresses (traction, compression, bending moment, shear and torsion) are designed to the serviseability and ultimate limit states. The course also aims to transfer to students the fundamental theoretical concepts of the design of pre-stressed reinforced concrete beams and the basic technology for their construction.
