Course Overview
The Master’s Degree programme in Water and Transportation Civil Engineering aims to train professionals capable of dealing with all issues related to the design and management of civil infrastructures with accuracy and critical skill.
In particular, Master graduates must acquire the following skills: a) study of (conventional and nonconventional) water resources; b) design and management of works and infrastructures relating to the collection, use and distribution of water for civil, irrigation and industrial purposes; c) design and management of hydraulic defence works and infrastructures; d) design and management of works and infrastructures for the hydraulic protection of the territory; e) design and management of works and interventions for river course control; f) design and management of works and interventions for water drinkability, treatment, disposal and purification; g) design and management of works and interventions for the treatment and disposal of solid waste; h) study of the different transport modes and systems; i) planning of transportation infrastructures and systems; l) design, construction, management and maintenance of road, railway, airport and intermodal infrastructures; m) design, construction, management and maintenance of innovative handling systems; n) design and requalification of transportation infrastructures on the basis of safety criteria; o) estimate of the environmental impacts of road and transportation infrastructures; p) design of functional furnishings for road and rail infrastructure in urban and suburban areas.
Master graduates in Water and Transportation Civil Engineering will thus be able to find employment mainly at construction and maintenance companies, professional firms, design companies for civil works, plants and infrastructures specifically related to hydraulic or transport systems; public offices in charge of the design, planning, management and control of urban or territorial water or transport systems; companies, entities, consortia and agencies in charge of the management and control of water and transport systems and services; service companies carrying out feasibility studies on the urban and territorial impact of water or transportation infrastructures.
The Degree programme is delivered over a period of 2 years, organised into learning activities divided by periods (2 per year), at the end of which students must have acquired 120 CFU (University credits).
The final test (12 credits) consists in the discussion of a dissertation in Italian or English. prepared under the guidance of one or more advisors; the dissertation may have a theoretical, experimental, design or recapitulative nature and, in any case, will be in line with the selected curricular path.
The Degree Programme provides for a training internship in companies, public or private bodies and professional associations carrying out work activities aligned with the degree programme’s educational objectives.
