TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE II AND LABORATORY M - Z
Module TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE II

Academic Year 2025/2026 - Teacher: GAETANO ANTONIO SCIUTO

Expected Learning Outcomes

The aim of the teaching is to enable students to acquire the useful tools for addressing and solving typological, distributive and technological problems that underlie architectural design and, in particular, the design of the building organism and its surroundings. The analysis is both environmental and technological for the satisfaction of user needs, made explicit in requirements and evaluated in terms of the performance of the very technical elements that constitute and govern the built form. The lectures, laboratory and exercises will address the different issues of building design from the scale of the building to that of the construction detail, with particular attention to buildings with mixed use (multifamily residences and tertiary activity), inclusive design and environmental sustainability. The knowledge acquired during the course will enable students to have a design approach that is attentive to both the health and well-being of users and to energy conservation and conscious consumption of resources, in accordance with Goals 3, 11, 12 and 13 of Agenda 2030.

Course Structure

The teaching will be carried out through lectures on theoretical topics and practical design exercises. The design exercises will take place in groups. Should teaching be carried out in mixed mode or remotely, it may be necessary to introduce changes with respect to previous statements, in line with the programme planned and outlined in the syllabus. The attendance is mandatory. Students are asked to be present at least at 70% of lessons. Professor let it self free to decide to verify the frequency of the students in the classroom.

Required Prerequisites

Knowledge of the conformation of building and construction elements. Thorough knowledge of techniques and methods of representation. Capacity to elaborate an architectural project. Capacity to elaborate an executive project. Knowledge of the fundamentals of technical physics.

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance is compulsory. Students are required to attend at least 70% of the course lectures. At the teacher's discretion, student attendance will be verified during lectures by roll call or signature collection.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The examination, which is integrated with the module ‘Technical Architecture Design Workshop II’, consists of an oral interview that can only be accessed after the delivery of the papers relating to the year's design exercise.

The assessment of the oral exam is based on the following criteria: level of knowledge of the required topics, language property, ability to apply the knowledge to concrete cases, also by means of the freehand graphic execution of construction details.

The final grade will take into account both the outcome of the oral interview and the assessment of the year's design exercise, for which the completeness, correctness and accuracy of the graphic works will be taken into account. The design exercises will be developed during the course of the lessons by the students in groups of 2-3 units; the relative assessment will be group-based. Each member of the group will be free to present themselves at the examination appointments independently of the other colleagues in their group.
