Architectural Drawing and LAB I
Module Architectural Drawing I

Academic Year 2026/2027 - Teacher: GIUSEPPE DI GREGORIO

Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding: the student will understand the principles of orthographic projections, sections, axonometric projections, and perspective projections as applied to architectural elements such as roofs, staircases, and vaults.

Applying knowledge and understanding: the student will be able to use graphic techniques to produce and manage plans, elevations, sections, axonometric views, graphic constructions, surface intersections, etc. They will be able to interpret and represent architectural elements in both 2D and 3D.

Course Structure

Teaching takes place through frontal theoretical lessons that are composed of explanatory graphic constructions. The student is required to draw in the classroom, in some personal graphic tables, what the teacher shows in the lessons. The process takes place under the supervision of the teacher. At the end of the lesson the work carried out is delivered to the teacher who checks the degree of advancement, then the graphic tvaola is returned during the course of the lesson. The student then must eventually complete the graphic table.

Required Prerequisites

Knowledge of elementary graphic constructions with ruler and compasses performed in lower secondary school and upper secondary school.

Detailed Course Content

Orthogonal projections (generality, P.O of the point, of the line and of the plane, of objects ...)

Axonometric projections

Orthogonal and axonometric projections of: barrel vaulting, cross vaulting, sailing, mirroring even with intersections of objects.

Roof geometry (plans, elevations and sections)

The representation of a vertical connection: the stairs.

The representation scales.

Interpreting contemporary architecture through the practical application of graphic representations.

The perspective

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

Student assessment is based on the review of the graphic plates developed during class and submitted by the student at the end of the session. A single graphic test—lasting 2 to 3 hours depending on complexity and covering topics addressed in class will be administered for each exam session. Assessment outcomes are classified as positive, negative, or intermediate. A positive or intermediate result grants access to the oral exam. The oral exam will cover the topics addressed in the graphic plates. Three or four questions will be asked to evaluate the student's preparation. Criteria for the oral assessment include: the relevance of answers to the questions asked, the quality of content, the ability to link topics to other parts of the syllabus, the ability to provide examples, the appropriate use of technical terminology, and overall communicative ability. The final grade will also take into account the result of the graphic test.

Examples of frequently asked questions and / or exercises

- orthogonal projection of the straight line, of the plane. Conditions of membership.

- orthogonal projections of objects in space.

- graphic solution of the plan of a constant slope roof, elevations, sections.

- orthogonal projections of the vaults, sections, axonometry.

- intersections of surfaces in space, orthogonal and axonometric projections.

- perspective of figures and objects in space and in the geometric plane, with the various methods.

- orthogonal projections of the stairs.
