Architectural Drawing and LAB I
Module Laboratory of Architectural Drawing I

Academic Year 2026/2027 - Teacher: GRAZIANA D'AGOSTINO

Expected Learning Outcomes

The course is organised in a series of lessons aimed at the knowledge of representation methods in the cad, 2d and 3d environment. The lessons will be accompanied by graphic exercises with the aim of deepening the topics covered and verifying the student's level of learning. The graphic works will be preparatory to the drafting of the final drawings in which the representation methods learnt in the lessons will be applied to a final exercise.

If the course is delivered in blended or remote mode, appropriate adjustments may be made to the above, in order to ensure consistency with the syllabus.

The expected learning outcomes of the course are based on the principles of the Dublin Descriptors, namely:

1-KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: the module provides students with the fundamentals of digital technical drawing, with a view to understanding the concept of architectural representation and gaining an overview of automatic drawing techniques.

2-APPLICATION SKILLS: students acquire the ability to apply knowledge of architectural representation techniques during the design phase through classroom exercises that require the use of the theoretical concepts and methodologies covered in the lessons. Lessons and classroom exercises precede the practical design activities.

3-INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT: Students will be able to make reasoned decisions based on their professional expertise and engineering methodologies.

4-COMMUNICATION SKILLS: students will be able to interact with experts from other sectors and technical staff at various levels; communicate the results of analysis and design activities, as well as proposed interventions, using appropriate tools; and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, or take on the role of coordinator and manager.

5-LEARNING SKILLS: Students will be able to develop the learning skills necessary to undertake further studies with a high degree of independence, adapt to the demands of the job market, keep their knowledge up to date, keep pace with technological innovation and broaden their knowledge and skills.

Course Structure

Teaching will take place alternating between theoretical lessons and practical exercises. The course consists of 45 hours of laboratory work conducted by the teacher.

Required Prerequisites

No theoretical prerequisites required. The possession of a laptop on which digital drawing programmes can be installed is required.

Attendance of Lessons

Frequency is obligatory. The student is required to attend at least 70% of the course lessons.

Detailed Course Content

The following topics will be covered:

- drawing in a two and three-dimensional cad environment (programme used Autocad);

- 3D solid modelling techniques (programme used Rhinoceros).

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The exam consists of an oral colloquium and, if necessary, a computer-based practical test, which can only be accessed after the students have handed in their works relating to the exercises carried out during the course. During the oral interview, which will take place at the same time as the assessment of the Drawing I module, the student may be asked to open the files of his or her works on the computer in order to carry out tests. During the practical test, the student is asked to carry out an exercise relating to the topics covered during the course. As a rule, the practical CAD test is held at the end of the laboratory sessions.

Learning assessment may also be carried out on-line, should the conditions require it.To ensure equal opportunities and in compliance with current laws, interested students may request a personal interview in order to plan any compensatory and/or dispensatory measures based on educational objectives and specific needs. Students can also contact the CInAP (Centro per l’integrazione Attiva e Partecipata — Servizi per le Disabilità e/o i DSA) referring teacher within their department (https://www.cinap.unict.it/content/referenti).

Examples of frequently asked questions and / or exercises

A practical computer modelling exercise may be requested, as well as questions concerning the use of the software or questions concerning the final exercise carried out.
