Gaetano Antonio SCIUTO
Gaetano Sciuto was born in Catania in 1963. He received the Laurea degree in Civil Engineering from University of Catania in 1988. In 2001 he received the Ph.D. degree discussing his thesis on the use in Architecture of basaltic Etna stone. In 2004, he joined the Department of Architecture and Town Planing of Catania University as assistant professor. Then he became associate professor of “Architettura Tecnica” in 2007. He was member of the Ph.D. (titled “Progetto e Recupero Architettonico Urbano e Ambientale”) teaching staff in Catania. From 1 November 2014 to 31 October 2016 he was vice-head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Catania. From 1 November 2016 he is the Coordinator of the degree course in Architecture and Building Engineering. He has been the supervisor of over 150 degree theses. He has taught many subjects in the disciplinary sector of Buildings construction and techniques. He has developed researches on: use procedures of the non-destructive instruments; application of non-destructive-test for stony materials of Eastern Sicily; historical buildings refurbishment; building typologies of Eastern Sicily towns; materials and traditional constructive techniques; relationship between technique and architecture; bioclimatic and echo-sustainable design; building envelope and energy saving in the existing building heritage; design of transferable housing; characterization of performance and innovation in use of natural materials. He has participated in numerous research projects of national and local interest (PRIN, PON, COFIN, FIR, etc.).
