COSTRUZIONE DI MACCHINE

Academic Year 2026/2027 - Teacher: RAFFAELE BARBAGALLO

Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding

The student, building on the concepts already acquired in Structural Mechanics and Applied Mechanics, shall gain knowledge and understanding of the operating principles and mathematical modelling of the mechanical components and simple mechanical systems covered in the course.

Applying knowledge and understanding

The student shall also be able to apply the acquired concepts to perform sizing and verification calculations for such components and systems.

The acquired skills can be applied in the fields of industry and sustainable development, in line with Goals 9 and 11 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Course Structure

Frontal lessons.

Exercises on the topics of the course.

Team project.

If the course is delivered in blended or remote mode, appropriate adjustments may be made to the above, in order to ensure consistency with the syllabus.

Required Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Structural Mechanics and Applied Mechanics is essential.

Attendance of Lessons

Mandatory class attendance (minimum 70%).

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

Presentation of a group project related to an assembly with the dimensioning of the mechanical components.

Oral exam - Elements to be evaluated: relevance of the answers, quality of their contents, ability to connect with other topics within the program, ability to report examples, quality of technical language, and overall expressive ability.

Learning assessment may also be carried out on-line, should the conditions require it.

To ensure equal opportunities and in compliance with current laws, interested students may request a personal interview in order to plan any compensatory and/or dispensatory measures based on educational objectives and specific needs. Students can also contact the CInAP (Centro per l’integrazione Attiva e Partecipata — Servizi per le Disabilità e/o i DSA) referring teacher within their department (https://www.cinap.unict.it/content/referenti).

Examples of frequently asked questions and / or exercises

Project of gears systems and mechanical components.

Shafts design under torque and bending moment.

Mechanical components design: springs, joints, frictions, brakes.
