Paolo ROCCARO
Paolo Roccaro is full Professor of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, University of Catania (Italy). He has been Fulbright Scholar at the University of Arizona in Tucson and Visiting Scientist at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. He is or has been PI or co-PI of projects on Microwave Regeneration of PFAS-Exhausted Granular Activated Carbon (grant from The Water Research Foundation, USA), Smart and ecofriendly systems for the Sicilian agriculture (grant from the Sicilian Region), Advanced processes for the removal of emerging contaminants from water (grant from the University of Catania), Recovery and use of Volcanic Ash from Mt. Etna – REUCET (grant from the Italian Ministry of Environment), Wastewater reuse (grant from the Italian Ministry of Instruction University and Research (MIUR). He has also worked on other projects funded by the European Commission, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).
His research is focused on water quality, removal of micro-pollutants from water, formation and control of disinfection by-products (DBP) in water, removal and control of contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) in water and wastewaters systems, wastewater treatment and reuse, advanced treatment processes, monitoring and modeling trace contaminants in water by spectroscopy, real-time monitoring, soil and aquifer remediation, water quality management in precision farming, waste recovery and valorization, circular economy and sustainability in water and waste management, human exposure to airborne contaminants.
